Cayman Cigars Pioneers Tobacco Cultivation in the Cayman Islands

Worldwide - August 22, 2024 (USANews.com) - Cayman Cigars has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully cultivating tobacco in the Cayman Islands, a region long deemed unsuitable for large-scale farming due to its challenging soil conditions.

Under the visionary leadership of Granger Haugh, this ambitious project has transformed a seemingly impossible dream into a thriving reality.Inspired by the success of vegetable crops on the island and the proximity to Cuba, renowned for its high-quality tobacco, Granger Haugh embarked on this venture with a bold vision. “Granger believed that with 100% organic and biodynamic soil amendments, tobacco could thrive here just as vegetables have,” said Scott, a key figure in the project.

Overcoming significant challenges, including the island's rocky terrain, required innovative solutions. Granger collaborated with Advanced Composting Systems (ACS) and introduced the Valentini AL 2300 to improve soil conditions. These advancements, combined with a reverse osmosis (RO) water system, addressed salinity issues and facilitated successful tobacco cultivation.

Despite initial skepticism from industry experts, the project’s viability became evident, leading to growing interest from tobacco veterans. At PCA 2024, Cayman Cigars showcased their progress, garnering attention from industry leaders who are now closely observing this pioneering effort. Cayman Cigars plans to expand their operations to include cultivating wrapper tobacco, aiming to produce boutique micro-crops of exceptional quality. The project also highlights a positive community impact, employing staff members who are recovering addicts and alcoholics, underscoring the transformative power of entrepreneurship.

Cayman Cigars' commitment to innovation and sustainable social impact promises a lasting legacy that will inspire the tobacco industry and beyond.
