Giving Back is Good for Business
By Josh Morris, Co-Founder & CEO, DQS Solutions & Staffing
Nationwide - October 29, 2024 (USANews.com) - When it comes to business, it’s all about finding the balance between what customers need and the resources you’ve got to make it happen. As a staffing agency, we see this reality every day. And honestly, the reason we’ve grown so fast in our first four years. It comes down to one simple thing: people.
Our customers help define what we do. By listening to them closely, we’ve been able to provide solutions to problems that, at first, might not even seem like they’re related to staffing. But we’ve found that being open to where our clients lead us is what sets us apart. That’s how we’ve grown from filling roles in the automotive industry to offering services in security, janitorial work, employee food truck services, and even snow removal. We’ve also expanded into warehousing, logistics, and transportation—all because we listened to the needs of the people we serve.
Why We Do What We Do
Our company’s growth comes from my personal experiences, the people who shaped me, and the community that raised me. Growing up, I saw firsthand the barriers that make employment—and life in general—harder for some people. Working in these same communities through DQS made it clear that we needed to do more than just place people in jobs; we needed to break down those barriers.
That’s why, in 2023, we launched DQS’s nonprofit organization Foundation for Pops. It’s named after my grandfather, a Vietnam vet who struggled after returning from service and became homeless. Through our nonprofit, we help people get what they need to live a stable life—whether it’s temporary housing, clothing, a driver’s license, or even assistance with job applications.
And we’re not stopping there. We’ve partnered with the River Rouge School District, where I went to school, to offer annual scholarships, paid internships, and job opportunities for their graduates. It’s our way of giving back to the community that gave me so much.
Thinking Globally, Acting Locally
The phrase “think globally, act locally” has never been more relevant than it is today. Businesses need to understand the bigger forces at play in their industries, but they also need to respond quickly when things shift—whether it's supply chain disruptions, workforce shortages, or other challenges. That’s where we come in. By working closely with our clients, we can anticipate their needs and provide solutions that help them—and us—grow.
At DQS, we’re lucky to have found partners who share our passion for problem-solving. Almost every challenge we tackle comes with a workforce angle, which is right in our wheelhouse. And while we’ve branched out into new sectors, we’ve stayed true to our roots: helping people overcome barriers to employment and creating opportunities for them to thrive.
In the end, our growth has allowed us to give back to the causes and communities that matter most to us. And in turn, that commitment to giving back has fueled our rapid growth. It’s been a rewarding journey, and we’re just getting started.
